The Bajaj RE60 is an
inexpensive, rear-engined, four-passenger city car built by
Bajaj Auto and is aimed primarily at the Indian domestic market.
Bajaj Auto first unveiled
the Bajaj RE60 on 3 January 2012 ,
at the 2012 Auto Expo in Delhi .
Bajaj RE60 is Bajaj’s first foray into the four-wheel market. Bajaj announced
that the car will have high fuel efficiency of 40 km/l and low carbon
dioxide emissions. With a fare meter included in the base model’s dashboard,
the firm is targeting auto-rickshaw drivers by offering a four wheeler as
economical to run as a three wheeler, but safer and more comfortable.
Bajaj RE60 will have a
200cc, water-cooled, fuel-injected DTSi engine that will put out roughly 20 PS
of power but the light kerb weight of just 400 kgs gives the vehicle a power to
weight ratio similar to A-segment cars in India .
The engine is mounted at the rear of the four-wheeler and as a result boot
space is limited to 44 litres.
The Bajaj RE60 is likely to be
priced much lower at around Rs.1.5 lakh to encourage rickshaw owners to shift
to the new four-wheeler model from their motorized three-wheeled rickshaws.
